Our Story

Dr. Adrian Gluck, MBA, PhD, PE, a renowned inventor and professional engineer, with 25 patents in the field of media and ergonomics, discovered that many manual tasks that are dangerous to the workers’ health and safety, have been neither automated nor assisted with ergonomic hand tools and fixtures. Dr. Gluck concluded that this surprising state-of-affairs is due to three factors:

  • Many manual tasks are wrongly being perceived as not being dangerous to workers’ health and safety;
  • Many manual tasks require human hand-eye-body dexterity and coordination, a skill that is not yet feasible to automate by using technologies available in the near-to-medium term future; and
  • Many manual tasks are performed in highly difficult-to-control environments, deeply affecting the performance of the work.

Dr. Gluck launched Human Engineering Technologies, LLC for the sole purpose of developing, manufacturing, and marketing simple-to-use, cost-effective tools and fixtures that can significantly increase the health, safety, speed, and accuracy of manual work. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 30 occupations defined as manual work in the U.S. economy. These occupations are staffed by about 80% of the total labor force, about 108 out of the total of 135 million workers currently employed full-time. The challenges and their resulting opportunities are in the billions of dollars annually.

The first manual work area chosen to be addressed by Human Engineering Technologies is housekeeping in hotels, as it affects hundreds of thousands of workers toiling in over 160,000 U.S. facilities. The company’s first product, the SafeTuck™ Bed Platform was launched in the fall of 2023, with more products for the hotel housekeeping market coming on stream starting in 2024.
